Pendleton - Students from the South Madison Community School Corp. will have their summers cut a little shorter but their breaks throughout the year extended, after the board voted to move schools toward a modified balanced calendar. The board, which met Thursday, Dec. 6, saved the vote for later in the meeting, after listening to parents, teachers and board members share their opinions concerning the possible switch from a traditional calendar to a balanced calendar.
Parent Dawn May made her case to the board before the vote, saying she and several other parents wanted to make the move to a balanced calendar.
“My preference has always been for the balanced calendar,” May said. “I think it’s better for the students. I think it’s time for a change, and I hope we move forward with the calendar.”
