PENDLETON — Fast food from south of the border could soon be available in the area, after Pendleton officials announced last week that a national food chain had set its sights on Pendleton.
“You heard me correctly,” planning and zoning coordinator Rachel Christenson said. “Taco Bell is coming to Pendleton.”
According to Christenson, the popular chain approached Pendleton a few months ago about opening a location on Ind. 67.
“They contacted us in April,” Christenson said. “The new location will be just north of Ricker’s on State Road 67, where the old NAPA Auto Parts store was. It will be right beside the Auto Zone.”
Christenson said representatives from Taco Bell will present plans to the board of zoning appeals and planning commission in August.
“It seems almost fast-tracked,” Christenson said. “They’re ready to go; they want to be in Pendleton.”
She said the group is so keen to start construction as soon as possible that construction plans have been submitted to the town for review.
“They’ve even submitted demolition plans for the old building already,” Christenson said. “We don’t have a groundbreaking date yet, but it could be soon.”
