Pendleton - South Madison Community School Corp.’s three elementary principals wrestled with whether to conduct spelling bees this year after the regional spelling bee in Anderson was cancelled for lack of a sponsor.
Both Maple Ridge Elementary and Pendleton Elementary Primary ultimately decided that the cost was too high to hold the event if winning students could not continue on to a regional and possibly the national bee in Washington, D.C.
