Pendleton – The Pendleton Town Council took a closer look at an outdated ordinance for peddlers, solicitors and transient merchants and hopes to adopt the new rules at its next meeting in August.

The council started the process after Pendleton Police Chief Marc Farrer approached the council with safety concerns.

“I believe the last update was in 1977,” Farrer said. “Due to changing times, we need to update this ordinance. We’re getting more salespeople in town, and we need to know who is around.”

Farrer said the station gets several calls a week from concerned residents.

“We want to know who is in town,” Farrer said. “This is a safety issue.”
