Ingalls - Darin Axel-Adams of Pendleton has been named the District Umpire of the Year by the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Coaches in the district vote to decide the winner of the award, which is based on knowledge of the rules of the game and their interpretation, decorum with the players and coaches, and professional appearance and game management.

Axel-Adams, who just completed his 21st season as an umpire, officiates high school games in the East Central Indiana area and works some youth games as well.

The third-grade teacher at Lantern Road Elementary School in Hamilton County said he was drawn to officiating by his love of the game.
