Pendleton - Pendleton Municipal Utilities customers might soon get a call from bill collectors, but town officials are saying those seeking to cash in on late payments are part of a scam.

Office Manager Jo DeWitt said a handful of customers have contacted the town during the past few weeks, concerned employees were seeking credit card information via the telephone.

“This is a scam,” DeWitt said. “I want our customers to know that we do not call anyone and ask for credit cards. That’s just not something that we do.”
