Pendleton - A portion of one of downtown Pendleton’s main thoroughfares was shut down Friday and remained closed until early Saturday morning after a water main break.

Town manager Tim McClintick said the break at the corner of State and Franklin streets occurred just after noon on March 7.

At the time of the leak, McClintick said the town hadn’t pinpointed the source of the break.

“We don’t know what caused it,” McClintick said. “But it could be due to age or the effects of winter.”

The town was able to continue service and figured out the cause eventually.

“We were able to maintain water the whole time,” McClintick said. “It was just an old valve that decided to leak.”

Originally thought the water main work would be finished by midnight, Pendleton crews actually finished the work around 3 a.m.
