John W. McCutcheon, 92, Lapel, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville, following a brief illness. He was born on Nov. 1, 1920, in Guthrie, W.V. to William and Mamie (Shafer) McCutcheon.
He served in the Navy during World War II in the south pacific.
He is survived by one daughter, Janet (Steve) Rockhold of Lapel; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 53 years, Virginia (Scott) McCutcheon; and a son, John, McCutcheon, Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec, 29, 2012, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Pastor Dillard Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Crownland Cemetery, Noblesville where the Lapel American Legion will perform military graveside rites.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
