John Rex Upton, 65, Lapel, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville following a 14-year triumph over cancer.
He was born Feb. 3, 1946, in Anderson, Ind. to Rex and Norma (Snyder) Upton.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Lynanne “Lynn” (Lutz) Upton; two children, Laura Elizabeth (husband, Bill) McGuire of Alexandria and John Wesley “Wes” (wife, Katie) Upton of Brownsburg; one grandson; one granddaughter; one brother James (wife, Rosilyn) Upton of Lapel; one sister, Rebecca (husband, Mike) Stanley of Greenwood; and his mother, Norma Louise (Snyder) Upton.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A funeral service took place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel where Dr. Randy McQueen and Pastor Doug Barton officiated. Burial followed at Brookside Cemetery, Lapel, where the Lapel American Legion Post 212 conducted military graveside rites. Visitation was from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 13, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 N. Main St., Lapel. There was a Masonic memorial service at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
