George Edward Lackey, 98, of Anderson died on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at his home in Primrose. He was born Jan. 14, 1918, in Lapel to Chester Carl and Grace Victoria (Hackleman) Lackey.
He is survived by three children, Janine (Rod) Compton of Frankton, Steve (Pam) Lackey of Anderson and Brian Lackey of Kissimmee, Florida; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Pettigrew of Anderson; one sister-in-law, Marlene Lackey of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 62 years, Betty (Varner) Lackey; his stepmother, Jessie Lackey; a daughter, Elizabeth Sue Lackey; two brothers, Johnnie and Nolan Lackey; and two stepsisters, Sara McDonald and Frances Schuyler.
Visitation was scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 N. Main St., Lapel, where a Masonic memorial service is set for 6 p.m. A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at the funeral home with Pastors Dewey Miller and Dawn Cuthbert officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel, where the Lapel American Legion Post will conduct military graveside rites.
