PENDLETON — Senior Madison Brand created her own brand of domination in swimming this season as she broke two school records Jan. 19.

At home against Mt. Vernon, Brand crushed a nine-year-old record in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing first in 2:10.27. Nikki Weston held the previous record at 2:13.06.

Later in the meet, Brand knocked off Autumn Brown’s 2010 record in the 100 backstroke. Brand came in at 1:00.02, beating Brown’s time of 1:00.35. Brand also broke the 200 freestyle school record last week at the Hoosier Heritage Conference meet with her time of 1:56.43, as well as knocking off the 500 freestyle school record in that same meet.

Brand’s efforts helped the Arabians to a 140-45 win against the Marauders.

The Arabians claimed victory in all three of the relays. In the 200 medley relay, the team of Cassidy Benbow, Jyeisha Mallory, Emma Robison and Karly Riffey bested the competition with a time of 2:06.93.

In the 200 freestyle relay, MaKenna Jule, Riffey, Sarah Dudley and Abbey DeFouw swam for first with a time of 1:48.09. In the final relay of the night, Jule, DeFouw, Brand and Robison took the 400 freestyle relay in 3:56.3.

Jule took first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:04.57, and DeFouw clocked a 27.22 to win the 50 freestyle.

Robison’s time of 58.81 paced the field in the 100 freestyle, while Maggie Miller won the 500 freestyle in 6:05.64.

Mallory earned a blue ribbon for her winning time of 1:15.87 in the 100 breaststroke.
