FAIRMOUNT — The Madison-Grant Argylls proved Tuesday that their Madison County tennis championship was no fluke as they handled Lapel for the second time in less than a week.

Bulldog Junior Maddie Shannon won at the No. 1 singles slot, but Lapel could not hang on to leads in the doubles matches as Madison-Grant knocked off Lapel 4-1.

Shannon defeated senior Kelsey Kohlmorgen 7-5, 6-1, but Lapel juniors Makena Mason and Mallory Jessup were soundly beaten by seniors Lauren McGuire and Kanani Price by 6-1, 6-0 scores.

In both doubles matches, Lapel held 5-4 leads in the opening set, but could not seal the deal.

In the No. 1 doubles match, Lapel juniors Lauren Benagh and Tonya Riffey fell to senior Abbey Gunning and junior Olivia Crouse 7-5, 6-1. In the second doubles match, senior Emma Bush and junior Alyssa Whaley pushed the Argylls to a first set tiebreak, but fell to seniors Logan Wake and Hannah Hawkins 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.

Lapel (3-2) is scheduled to travel to Frankton today before a showdown against Pendleton Heights Monday.
