Lapel softball falls to Madison-Grant

LAPEL — Maggie Havens kept the biggest Lapel bats quiet Wednesday, and Madison-Grant took advantage of Bulldog errors as the Argylls beat Lapel 8-2.

Havens navigated through the Lapel trio of Sophie Cline, Jasmine Hazelbaker and Addie Bailey, holding them to a combined 0-10 in the game. Havens allowed just six hits and walked none while striking out three to pick up the complete game win.

After a two-run double by freshman Megan Sundheimer brought the Bulldogs to within one at 3-2 in the second inning, the Argylls capitalized on a pair of Lapel miscues to score five unearned runs off Cline in the fourth. Cline pitched all seven innings for Lapel (8-7), allowing 12 hits but just three earned runs.

Maddi Evans had three hits and two RBI, and Morgan Conliff added three RBI for Madison-Grant (12-4), while Taylor Murdock added two hits and a run scored for Lapel.

Lapel’s doubleheader scheduled for Thursday against Knightstown has been rained out and the Bulldogs will next take the field Saturday for a 10 a.m. doubleheader at Eastern Hancock.
