PENDLETON — The torrential and seemingly unceasing rains last week caused Fall Creek to swell and some sizeable trees in Falls Park to fall, but other than that, South Madison County appears to have been spared the woes experienced elsewhere in the county and beyond.

“It flows pretty good through town, anymore,” Pendleton Police Chief Marc Farrer said on Monday, noting that he hadn’t heard of any homes flooding in town or other damage beyond the trees coming down.

Many residents visited the park to see the water coursing over the falls.

Many people stopped to take photos.

Beth Cox, who lives in Pendleton, was one person who stopped by to witness first hand the force of nature after a visit to the library.

“I geared up,” she said, noting she changed into rain boots in the car before venturing to the edge of the creek, which was splashing up over its banks at spots.

“I like to see how it looks different than normal,” she said.

Other people were strolling along the path that runs parallel to the stream, some with dogs eager to play in the water.

The rains did hamper road travel and flooded properties, as Madison County Emergency Management warned about high creeks and the need to be ready for “sandbagging operations and possible evacuations.”
