Arabians tennis beats Cougars, advances to sectional final

FORTVILLE—The Pendleton Heights girls tennis team rolled into Friday’s scheduled sectional championship with a 4-1 win against Greenfield-Central Thursday, May 18.

Sam Hammel improved her record to 18-1 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lindsey McCord in the No. 1 singles match while sophomore Gracie Criswell defeated Ali Proper in the No. 3 match 6-2, 6-2. McCord had pushed Hammel to a third set in the regular season meeting.

Junior Bailey Davis was the lone casualty for the Arabians when she fell in the No. 2 singles match to Avery Spencer by a 2-6, 2-6 score.

But Pendleton Heights (12-8) swept the doubles matches to move on.

Gabby Kramer and Susie Kramer handled the No. 1 doubles match with a 6-0, 6-1 win versus Erin Wright and Grace Hall. In the No. 2 match, Brielle Boynton and Claire Goodwin were 6-4, 6-2 winners over Haidyn Goodwin and Kaleigh Stephenson.
