INDIANAPOLIS–Both the junior varsity and varsity cheer squads for Pendleton Heights advanced through the preliminary round and will compete tonight in the finals of the Indiana State Fair cheerleading competition.

The competition gets underway at 5 p.m. with the Junior High division, followed by the junior varsity, Small and Large Varsity Without Music, and the Small and Large Varsity With Music divisions.

The Pendleton Heights JV team will be the third of four squads to perform and are expected to take the stage at approximately 5:45 p.m. and the varsity team, going for a fourth straight championship, will be the second group to compete in the Small Varsity with Music division at approximately 6:45 p.m.

This is the first competition for the teams this summer and, under those circumstances, coach Brenda Jamerson was pleased with the results.

“Both teams did very, very well,” she said. “We had a little problem with the varsity, they’ll have to come out better second time out. They were still very good for first time out.”

Scores and placings from the first round were not available.
