Gallery 119 offers art class, plans new show
PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society Gallery 119 is offering art classes with a limited number of students.
Jewelry with Tracy Davidson — 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 28. Davidson will teach beginners soldering used when making jewelry. Class fee is $55, which includes supplies and tools.

Also, the artists society is planning its July show from July 3 to Aug. 5 at the gallery, 119 W. State St.
This show will feature artists Pat Klusner and Joyce Minnick.
There will be no First Friday event on July 3 because of the holiday weekend and to avoid COVID-19 restrictions, however, there will be a reception, open to the public, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. July 10.
The show will be open during gallery hours, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
The Recycled Art Show, cut short because of COVID-19, is continuing through July 2.
Falls Park summer concerts are a go
PENDLETON — Lions Concerts in the Park will take place at the gazebo in Falls Park.
The schedule is as follows:
• 6 p.m. June 28 — Corey Cox
• 6 p.m. July 26 — The High Street Band
• 6 p.m. Aug. 30 — Madison County Band Directors and Pendleton Heights High School Band (pending)
Attendees can bring chairs, refreshments and sun shades and are asked to practice social distancing.
Celebrating pastor’s 50 years of service
PENDLETON — Pendleton Baptist Church will honor Dr. Dennis Clark for 50 years of service on July 5.
The celebration will begin at 10 a.m. with light refreshments. The service at 10:30 a.m. will be dedicated to reflecting upon God’s blessings to the church during the past 50 years.
Clark’s longtime friend Dr. Robert Parr, professor of sociology at Cedarville University, is scheduled to speak. All are welcome to attend.
The church is located at 207 Old State Road 132 West.
Lions plan food, rummage event
LAPEL — Lapel Lions Club will play host to a corn, wing and rummage event at its clubhouse on Friday and Saturday, July 10 and 11.
Lapel Village Fair normally falls on this weekend but was canceled because of the COVID-19 virus.
The club will offer its corn roast (Indiana corn) and Rick’s chicken wings in the parking lot of the Lions building, 329 S. Main St.
There also will be a big rummage sale inside the building.
Pendleton shred day set for July 18
PENDLETON — Due to coronavirus, Shred Day at SecurEstate is postponed to 9 to 11 a.m. July 18.
This onsite shredding service event is open to the public without charge.
There is no limit to the amount of paper people can bring, and all paper is shredded while people watch.
This is a drive-thru drop-off service offered at SecurEstate, 100 S. Main St., Pendleton.
People are asked to enter the parking lot off Main Street.
Optimist golf outing set for July 18
LAPEL — Lapel Optimist Club is sponsoring a fundraising golf outing for Saturday, July 18, at The Edge Golf Course in Edgewood.
Proceeds will help replace football equipment as required by new player safety rules.
A shotgun start begins at 1 p.m.
A $240 donation per foursome includes golf and cart for four and buffet lunch of broasted chicken, green beans, potato salad and dessert.
Prizes will be awarded for first place, longest drive and closest to pin.
Mulligans are $20 per team, one per player. Limit eight per team.
Drinks will be available on the course.

Lapel food pantry alters service
LAPEL — Lapel Community Food Pantry, 1321 N. Main St., Lapel, has changed its method of distributing food to clients.
Through the current period of COVID-19-related isolation restrictions, the panty will offer pre-packed sacks or boxes of food items to eligible individuals and families on a weekly basis.
The pantry serves Stony Creek, Jackson and Green townships in Madison County.
Clients may visit for food once per week.
The hours for this drive-thru program will be 5 to 7 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
Volunteers will be on site to direct clients through the line, and volunteers will bring distributions to the car. People are asked to remain in their vehicles.
With increased need, each car can receive only one weekly distribution.
Clients are asked to bring picture ID and proof of address (utility or phone bill, if current address differs from information on ID).

Library adds back more services
PENDLETON — Pendleton Community Public Library is continuing to add back services in the wake of COVID-19.
On June 8, the library welcomed patrons back into the library, with activities limited to the Community Room and east lobby.
Services made available, in addition to online services and programs and the Read ’n’ Feed, include access to computers, printers, copy machine, scanner and fax machine; notary services by appointment; ability to request and check out library materials, including hotspots and Library of Things items; access to contactless pickup in the east lobby; access to a staff member who can answer questions, provide information, plus suggest and retrieve materials for checkout; assistance with online applications for employment or state/federal assistance; access to state and federal tax forms; summer reading prize pickup; access to restrooms and drinking fountains.
COVID-19 safety measures include: Spacing computers more than six feet apart; enforcing social distancing and indicating proper social distancing with floor markers; staff wearing masks when interacting with the public and encouraging patrons to wear masks; encouraging staff and patrons to wash hands often and providing access to hand sanitizer and sinks for hand washing; sanitizing all computer stations after each use; providing sanitized mice and computer keyboards for each patron; acrylic shields placed between staff and patrons; remote computer assistance; routine sanitizing of frequently touched surfaces; allowing the recommended waiting period before handling returns.
The library is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays.

Museum will not open this year
PENDLETON — Pendleton Historical Museum, which normally is open weekends May through October, is not opening this year because of coronavirus.
