Gallery 119 offers art classes

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society Gallery 119 is offering art classes with a limited number of students.

The next scheduled classes are:

• Oil Painting With Katy — 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (with a lunch break) Wednesday, Aug. 5. Instructor Katy Burke will instruct the class on painting “The Beach.” Class fee is $55, which includes all supplies. People using their own paints and brushes pay $45. A 20×16-inch canvas is provided.

• Ceramic Pottery with Janae — 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays, Aug. 6, 13, 20 and 27; or 10 a.m. to noon Fridays, Aug. 7, 14, 21 and 28. A fifth date for each session is to be determined for glazing. Instructor Janae Ledbetter will teach participants how to create a ceramic lantern using various methods of pottery building. Cost is $80 for all sessions, supplies and two firings.

• Acrylic Painting Class with Diane — 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 11, 18, 25 and Sept. 1. Instructor Diane Burrell will lead four evening classes in acrylic painting for those who wish to work on their own subject matter or one she provides. The class will explore a variety of techniques, focus on color theory and help students develop their own style. Bring your own supplies. Call Burrell for a supply list; number may be obtained from Gallery 119. Canvas and palette is available for $15 payable during class. All levels of painters welcome. Cost for all classes is $55.

• Watercolor With Judy — 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (with a lunch break) Wednesday, Aug. 19. Instructor Judy Crist will teach participants to paint an image of an old truck in the woods. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch and drink. Class fee is $50. Supply list can be found at PASgallery119.org/events.

Lapel Lions fish fry Aug. 15

LAPEL — Lapel Lions Club plans its drive-through fish fry for 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at the Lions Building, 329 S. Main St., Lapel.

The club will serve its breaded and fried fish, usually offered only in September each year.

The cost will be $8 per meal, including two sides. Extra fish will be available for a charge.

One Lions park concerts remains

PENDLETON — Lions Concerts in the Park has one concert left for the season at the gazebo in Falls Park.

Madison County Band Directors and Pendleton Heights High School Band will perform at 6 p.m. Aug. 30.

Attendees can bring chairs, refreshments and sun shades and are asked to practice social distancing.

Lapel food pantry alters service

LAPEL — Lapel Community Food Pantry, 1321 N. Main St., Lapel, has changed its method of distributing food to clients.

Through the current period of COVID-19-related isolation restrictions, the panty will offer pre-packed sacks or boxes of food items to eligible individuals and families on a weekly basis.

The pantry serves Stony Creek, Jackson and Green townships in Madison County.

Clients may visit for food once per week.

The hours for this drive-thru program will be 5 to 7 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays.

Volunteers will be on site to direct clients through the line, and volunteers will bring distributions to the car. People are asked to remain in their vehicles.

With increased need, each car can receive only one weekly distribution.

Clients are asked to bring picture ID and proof of address (utility or phone bill, if current address differs from information on ID).

Museum will not open this year

PENDLETON — Pendleton Historical Museum, which normally is open weekends May through October, is not opening this year because of coronavirus.
