ANDERSON — United Way of Madison County is accepting applications for COVID Rapid Response (CRR) funding.

“Due to the ongoing needs of those struggling in our community because of COVID-19, we are continually working to provide as much funding as possible to local organizations so they can provide assistance in these challenging times,” Nancy Vaughan, president of United Way of Madison County, said in a press release.

The funding comes from the agency’s COVID-19 Economic Relief Initiative (ERI) Grant, funded by a partnership between Lilly Endowment Inc. and Indiana United Ways.

Since May, United Way of Madison County has provided more than $393,000 in COVID-19 relief.

In the current round, the agency will prioritize requests from organizations that “address the highest areas of unmet needs — shelter, food, transportation, childcare and energy assistance — that benefit people with low incomes, communities of color, and historically and/or systematically marginalized people in Madison County and/or Middletown,” the release states.

The deadline to submit an application is 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15.

United Way of Madison County received a total of $800,000 in ERI funding to expend.

Funds were distributed earlier this month to six local non-profits: PathStone, Children’s Bureau, Anderson Housing Authority, Stripped Love, Salvation Army and Operation Love.

Remaining funds from the grant will be directed toward safe housing efforts, nonprofit training opportunities and additional grant cycles.

United Way of Madison County aims to improve lives through improved education, income and health.

Governed by an 18-member volunteer board of directors, United Way of Madison County has been a member in good standing of United Way of America since 1973.
