Rosemary Griffey

Rosemary (Larkey) Griffey, 95, of Pendleton, IN passed away “peacefully” in her sleep on June 4, 2021 from acute leukemia. She was born in Shelbyville, IN on Sept 9, 1925 to Cecil and Thelma Larkey. After graduating high school from Indiana Academy, she earned her Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degrees in Elementary Education from Ball State University. Rosemary then went on to pursue her passion of teaching all elementary grade levels, but was best known as everyone’s fav 2nd grade teacher, finally retiring from Middletown School Corp after her 42 year teaching career.

Rosemary was a lifelong member of the Anderson Seventh-day Adventist Church, where she led Vacation Bible School for many years, and served on multiple committees. She selflessly gave her time to help others; a true example of a Christian. Rosemary was an avid reader. Her two grandsons were her pride and joy; our fondest memories was of her reading bible stories to them throughout their young lifetime. She had a sweet tooth like no other, she loved candy, cookies, strawberry milkshakes, strawberry shortcake and ice cream. She had the sweetest smile, and the kindest heart. She was a beautiful human being.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Francis Rolland Griffey; a son, Michael Steven Griffey; and daughter, Pamela Lu Griffey.

She leaves behind a daughter, Lisa Kay Haller and grandsons Blake Austin Haller and Cole Robert Haller of Pendleton, Indiana, and 6 amazing sisters/brother-in laws she adored; Patti (Larry) Green, Ruth (Junior) Cherry, Shirley (Floyd) Evans, Nancy Larkey, Betty Larkey, Dorothy (Dale) Banta, and many nieces and nephews she loved too.

Our family wishes to give special thanks to Cathy Shaw, Living Petals, for the love and incredible care she provided to Rosemary over the past few years.

There will be a Celebration of Life at Rosemary’s daughter’s home on Sunday June 13.
