PENDLETON — After an extended closure because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Pendleton Historical Museum is re-opening Saturday, July 10.

As part of the re-opening, the museum will observe new hours.

The new hours will include 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays; Sunday hours will remain 1 to 5 p.m.

The goal is to give more people an opportunity to visit, museum board President Nancy Noel said in an email to The Times-Post.

In addition to new hours, the museum has created new displays and updated existing ones.

Visitors will have an opportunity to step back into the 1950s to see what a kitchen looked like then and how an office from the same era operated.

Visitors will also be able to learn more about the Indian massacre that occurred on Lick Creek, with the trial and subsequent hanging of those responsible taking place in Pendleton along Fall Creek.

On display will be the letters written by Indian agent John Johnston, as he communicated with other government officials concerning the massacre and his relationship with the Indians of the area.
