Times-Post earns industry honors

INDIANAPOLIS — The Times-Post won several awards during the Hoosier State Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest 2021.

The awards were announced on Friday.

The Times-Post won first- and second-place awards in the Best News Coverage Under Deadline Pressure for stories written by editor Scott Slade about a house fire on Franklin Street and of the Black Lives Matter protest in Pendleton.

Times-Post reporter Steve Heath also won two awards: second place in the Best Profile Feature category for a story on local muralist Debbie Knapp, and third place in is the Best Sports News or Feature Coverage category for a story about Dalton Mollenkopf, a Pendleton Heights High School graduate who was part of the Adrian College fishing team.

Photographer Tom Russo won first-place award in the Best Multiple Picture Group category for his shots from an Outfitters Inc. movie drive-in fundraiser at Pendleton Heights High School.

Columnist Erik Deckers won Second Place in the Best General Commentary category based on one entry of three columns.

Slade also won a third-place award in Headline Writing, based on a selection of three headlines.

The Times-Post serves South Madison County, including the towns of Pendleton, Lapel, Markleville and Ingalls. It is part of the AIM Media Indiana newspaper group.
