Gallery 119 offers art classes

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s Gallery 119 offers art classes on a regular basis.

The next classes are:

• Paint With Diane Burrell — 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13. Burrell will teach how to use color and strong contrast with reds while painting a “Hibiscus in Acrylic.” Cost of the class is $35 and includes all supplies. All levels of painters are welcome.

• Oil Painting with Gini Deaton — 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15. Deaton will teach step by step how to paint a country church that is ready for “Evening Prayers.” Cost is $55 and includes supplies. Participants are asked to bring paper towels.

• Pottery with Janae Ledbetter — morning and evening sessions (each session is comprised of five classes, the last one for glazing). The cost is $120 for each session, which includes supply fee and firings.

Tuesday evening sessions (6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Limit eight students per session) Session 1 — Aug. 24, 31, Sept. 7, 14, 21; Session 2 — Sept. 28, Oct. 5, 12, 19, Nov. 2; Session 3 — Nov. 9, 16, 23, 30, Dec. 7

Wednesday morning sessions (10 a.m. to noon; limit five students per session) Session 1 — Aug. 25, Sept. 1, 8, 15, 22; Session 2 — Sept. 29, Oct. 6, 13, 20, Nov. 3; Session 3 — Nov. 10, 17, 24, Dec. 1, 8

• Watercolor painting with Judy Crist — 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 28. Participants will paint “Sunflower and Butterfly” using watercolors. Beginning painters are welcome. All supplies are provided with the class fee of $45 per person.

• Jewelry Class With Tracy Davidson — 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29. In this beginner class for ages 12 and up, Davidson will teach texturing, soldering and forming to create copper and silver forged earrings. Cost is $50 and includes use of tools and all supplies.

Registration for classes can be completed at Gallery 119 or by phone at 765-778-0986 during regular business hours, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Summer concert set for Aug. 29

PENDLETON — Summer Concerts in the Park continue at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, with Madison County Band Directors Jazz Band and Pendleton Heights High School Marching Band.

People are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs. Organizers remind people to be prepared for sun (hats, sunglasses, etc.).

Lions will serve hot dogs, drinks and snacks.

Parkfest 2021 set for Sept. 9

PENDLETON — Parkfest 2021, featuring Stella Luna and the Satellites, is set for 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at Barnhart Field in Falls Park.

In addition to the concert, people are invited to participate in a bring-your-own-picnic decorating contest by decorating their space.

Tickets are $15 each or $50 for a Fest4pack. They can be purchased at fallspark.org/donate.

There is no admission charge for children 10 and under.

Proceeds benefit Falls Park.

Pendleton Heights Class of ’76 to gather

PENDLETON — Pendleton Heights High School Class of 1976’s reunion is set for 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at Pendleton American Legion.

It features a barbecue-style picnic dinner, cash bar and live music.

Cost is $30 cash at door ($55 per couple).

Author recalls Anderson revival

GREENFIELD — Gary Wright will speak and sign copies of “He Just Showed Up! An Eyewitness to Revival” at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. He will appear as part of the library’s Local Author Showcase series.

Wright will read passages from his work, which appeals to those interested in church history, Indiana religious history, and the intentional practice of renewal.

The book includes a section on a 1970 revival in Anderson.

As a special feature, Hancock County Historian Joseph L. Skvarenina will engage Wright in a dialogue of stories and topics that relate to the local area, such as the John T. Hatfield Camp in Cleveland just east of Greenfield.
