Kimberly Ann (Conner) Stanton Smith, of Kansas City, KS died Friday, July 9, 2021. She was born July 21, 1960 in Anderson, IN to Francis and Mariam (Anson) Conner.

Kim grew up in Pendleton and was a 1978 graduate of Pendleton Heights High School. She received her BA degree from University of Texas. She was compassionate, and was a teacher and then a tutor of children with disabilities.

She would often befriend individuals who were elderly, disabled, or alone and gave generously of herself. She taught her two children, “Everyone has something to offer” and lived by that.

Kim loved the song “Ordinary Miracles,” and could often be found nurturing flowers or watching hummingbirds. She loved to sing and when she was a child her favorite song was “In My Heart There Rings a Melody.” She would sit by her mother in church and sing sweetly the songs of praise to God. Even though she had struggled through life her faith never left her. She left the world with good will and love to everyone who knew and loved her and would want us all to take good care of ourselves, live well, love each other, laugh often, and see one another as ordinary miracles every day.

She is survived by her mother, son Kelly Stanton (Clara), daughter Kathy Stanton, granddaughter Maeve En Stanton, brothers Chris Conner (Monique), Kevin Conner (Jayne), step-father Charles Curtiss, step-brother Tom Curtiss (Sheila), step-sisters Debbie Curtiss, Carole Miller (Tod), several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father.

“Grief can be the garden of compassion. If you keep your heart open through everything, your pain can become your greatest ally in your life’s search for love and wisdom.” – Rumi
