Cross country teams first, third at County Clash

PENDLETON —They are off and running at the front of the pack.

Pendleton Heights cross country teams opened their seasons Saturday at the County Clash, held in Upland at Taylor University.

The races were comprised of teams from Madison, Delaware and Grant counties.

The Pendleton Heights girls team won its competition that included nine schools. The boys team placed third among 10 squads.

Team scores for the girls race were: Pendleton Heights 44, Yorktown 69, Delta 79, Eastbrook 81, Alexandria 117, Wes-Del 157, Wapahani 179, Madison-Grant 212, Frankton 223.

Freshman Ava Jarrell was the top Arabians runner, placing third, running the 5K course in 21:05.80. Senior Laney Ricker wasn’t too far behind, finishing fifth in 21:53.30. Senior Berkeley Lord added a Top 10 finish, placing ninth in 22:42.60.

Rounding out the scoring runners were Jaycee Thurman (13, 23:22.70) and Abby Davidson (14, 23:28.00). Others in the team’s Top 7 included, Ella Dixon (17, 23:54.80) and Olivia Welpott (21, 24:17.80).

For the boys, the Arabians were led by the 3-4 finish of Avry Carpenter and Andrew Blake.

Carpenter, a senior, crossed the line in 17:14.30. Blake, a junior, wrapped up his race in 17:37.90.

The Arabians scored 89 points. Yorktown won with 52 and Wapahani had 57.

Jason Lyst was next in line for the PH harriers. He finished 15th, clocking in at 18:28.60. (15, 18:28.60). Also scoring for the Arabians were Gabe Holland (33, 19:57.00) and Ian McLaughlin (34, 19:58.10).

The team’s Top 7 included Jack Goehring (72, 25:08.60) and Dillon Penrod (78, 26:15.50).

Other team scores for the race were: Muncie Central 116, Frankton 134, Eastbrook 166, Madison-Grant 172, Delta 180, Wes-Del 182, Alexandria 238.

Both teams were scheduled to host the Arabian Roundup on Wednesday, Aug. 25.
