PENDLETON — The Lapel girls golf team has proven once again it is a force by taking its fifth consecutive Madison County title.

Last year’s state champion Macy Beeson took the medalist honors with a four under par 68 on the Fall Creek Golf course hosted by Pendleton Heights.

Bulldog Coach Dylan Crosley was happy for a few reasons. “This was what I wanted for my 29th birthday.” This was Crosley’s fourth win as a coach for Lapel.

Beeson finished with a four under par 68 on the course. Crosley said Beeson was aiming for par on the last hole but bogeyed instead. The Bulldogs finished the course with a team score of 341 followed by Pendleton Heights for second with a 371. Alexandria-Monroe was third, Frankton was fourth and Elwood was fifth.

The Arabians were playing without their No. 2 player, but Coach Hilary Slick said her four and five players didn’t play many tournaments last year, and she thought they performed well.

“It was a good day for us,” Slick said.

Kaitlyn Shamblin had one of her best 18-hole tournament rounds, scoring a 90.

Arabians Grace Wiggens was second with her all-time best in an 18-hole tournament with a 77.

“I’m really happy about how I played. I’m also happy I got to play with Macy,” Wiggens said.

She said she and Beeson have a similar pace they like to play and playing with better players helps her game as well.

Two competitors had to leave the competition because of the intense heat. Crosley said Bulldog Chloe Renihan had trouble at one point, but with a few cold towels and a break and she was able to finish. Renihan scored a 90 and was named to the All-County Team.

“She played her best today. Her personal record was in the 90s, and she broke 90 today, and I couldn’t be more proud,” Crosley said.

Bulldog Grace Martin scored an 89 for All-County honors as well.

Beeson, Wiggens, Renihan, Shamblin and Martin were named to the All-County team.
