Visual Art Show

PENDLETON — South Madison Visual Art Show will be on display from Sept. 3-29 at Gallery 119 in Pendleton.

Winners of the show will be announced at the First Friday event set for 6-8:30 p.m. Sept. 3.

Prize money will be awarded to Best of Show, $250; second place, $150; and People’s Choice, $100.

The public is welcome to attend and vote for their choice for People’s Choice.

Other times to view the show are during regular hours at the gallery, located at 119 W. State St., from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

This exhibit has been made possible through the South Madison Community Foundation Arts Fund.

The fund was established by the children of Robert E. and Vinetta A. Wills, in honor of their mother, Vinetta Airman Wills, and is hosted by the local Tri Kappa chapter. The purpose of the fund is to recognize people with artistic talent in South Madison County (Green, Stony Creek, Adams and Fall Creek townships).

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s Gallery 119 offers art classes on a regular basis.

The next classes are:

• Pottery with Janae Ledbetter — morning and evening sessions (each session is comprised of five classes, the last one for glazing). The cost is $120 for each session, which includes supply fee and firings.

Tuesday sessions (6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; limit eight students per session) Session 2 — Sept. 28, Oct. 5, 12, 19, Nov. 2; Session 3 — Nov. 9, 16, 23, 30, Dec. 7

Wednesday sessions (10 a.m. to noon; limit five students per session) Session 2 — Sept. 29, Oct. 6, 13, 20, Nov. 3; Session 3 — Nov. 10, 17, 24, Dec. 1, 8

Registration for classes can be completed at Gallery 119 or by phone at 765-778-0986 during regular business hours, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Retired teachers

to dine, meet

MADISON COUNTY — Madison County Retired Teachers Association will conduct its fall meeting for the 2021-22 school year on Thursday, Sept. 9, at Anderson Country Club.

Registration runs from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

Following, there will be a plated meal luncheon ($18) and a short business meeting.

Stephen Jackson will speak about “One-Room Schoolhouses in Madison County.”

Canned goods or monetary donations for local food pantries will be accepted.

Parkfest 2021

set for Sept. 9

PENDLETON — Parkfest 2021, featuring Stella Luna and the Satellites, is set for 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at Barnhart Field in Falls Park.

In addition to the concert, people are invited to participate in a bring-your-own-picnic decorating contest by decorating their space.

Tickets are $15 each or $50 for a Fest4pack. They can be purchased at fallspark.org/donate.

There is no admission charge for children 10 and under.

Proceeds benefit Falls Park.

Lapel Lions Club

fish fry coming up

LAPEL — Lapel Lions Club’s 74th annual all-you-can-eat fish fry is set for 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 17 and 18, at the Lions Building, 329 S. Main St., Lapel.

The event returns this year after being canceled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pendleton Heights Class of ’76 to gather

PENDLETON — Pendleton Heights High School Class of 1976’s reunion is set for 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at Pendleton American Legion.

It features a barbecue-style picnic dinner, cash bar and live music.

Cost is $30 cash at door ($55 per couple).
