McDermott fans seven in second start

In his second start and third appearance with the Houston Astros Low-A affiliate, the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, former Pendleton Heights pitching standout Chayce McDermott had a season-high seven strikeouts in three innings of work on Sept. 2.

The Woodpeckers defeated the Augusta GreenJackets 6-3. McDermott walked two and gave up two hits and dropped his earned run average to 3.12.

In four professional appearances, including one with the Astros Florida Rookie League team, where he made his debut, McDermott has 25 strikeouts in 11.2 innings pitched with a 2.31 ERA. Hitters are batting only .128 against the hard-throwing right-hander.

McDermott, who played at Ball State following his time at Pendleton Heights, was a fourth-round draft choice of the Astros.
