Noblesville rackets blank Pendleton Heights

PENDLETON — The Pendleton Heights boys tennis team played host to powerhouse Noblesville on Monday, Sept. 27, but fell to the Millers 5-0.
At No. 29 in the state polls, Noblesville held the Arabians to just eight game wins in the varsity matches.
With one remaining match before sectional play begins, the Arabians have struggled this season to find more wins.
Coach Royce Hammel said if a few things had fallen their way, the win-loss column could be a different story. “We had some 3-2 losses that saw that deciding match go three sets.”
“Sam (Bowers), who has a lot of nice shots, is going against the No. 1s. You might lose a lot, but hopefully, you’re learning a lot,” Hammel said.
Bowers lost to Noah Bushong, who is one of the top players in the state.
“If he hits hard, and you like to hit hard, and it’s not working, you have to adjust and learn what to do different,” Hammel said.
Despite the record, Hammel has watched his team improve, especially on the junior varsity. “There’s a lot more guys willing to try singles, knowing if it doesn’t work out, it puts them in line to play doubles.
Ryland Mills played doubles last year but moved to No. 2 singles on varsity this season.
The Arabians drew a bye in the sectional. They will play at 5 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 30, at Mt. Vernon High School against the winner of
Wednesday’s Mt. Vernon-Greenfield Central match.
The junior varsity picked up wins from Jaxton Bush in singles and Ty Frakes and Parker Coon in doubles.
Varsity results:
1S Noah Bushong (N) def. Sam Bowers (PH), 6-0, 6-0
2S Michael Krukower (N) def. Ryland Mills (PH) , 6-1, 6-0
3S Ethan Feliciano (N) def. Austin Perny, 6-2, 6-3
