Indiana Senate seeks student pages

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Senate is accepting applications for the 2022 Senate Page Program, which aims to teach young people about working in government and give them the opportunity to meet their state senator.

Students in Grades 6 through 12 can apply for the one-day program, which will include touring the statehouse, listening in on debates, and helping staff with age-appropriate tasks.

“I am looking forward to the return of the Senate Page Program and welcoming all of the young Hoosiers that will join us this session,” said Sen. Mike Gaskill (R-Pendleton). “Any student can benefit from the one-of-a-kind experience this program provides, and I encourage all those interested to apply.”

Gaskill was first elected to the State Senate in 2018 to represent District 26, which was composed of most of Madison County, as well as portions of Delaware and Henry counties.

Following the recent redistricting process, Madison County is now fully contained in District 25 along with a small portion of Hamilton County.

Gaskill, who resides in Madison County, announced in October that he will seek a second term.

Democratic Sen. Tim Lanane, District 25, representing portions of Madison, including Muncie and Anderson, and Delaware counties, announced recently he will not seek re-election next year.

The Senate Page Program will begin in January and run through early March. Positions fill quickly, so it is important to apply early. Pages are scheduled for Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during the legislative session.
