Gallery 119 offers art classes

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s Gallery 119 offers art classes on a regular basis.

The next classes are:

• Children’s Class with Diane Burrell — 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 12. Students will learn separation enamel fired onto copper to make a necklace. Learn to apple enamel sifted and painted onto a domed copper disc. The piece will be fired multiple times in an enameling kiln. There will be multiple color choices. Participants are asked to wear closed toe shoes for safety. Cost is $10 per person.

• Pottery Classes with Janae Ledbetter.

Beginner Class — 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays March 30, April 6,

13 and 27. This is a four-session beginner pottery class where participants will create pieces of art using three pottery techniques and glazing. Cost is $120 for each session and includes all supplies and firings. Participants are asked to enter through the back entrance of the gallery.

Adult Intermediate Class — morning session (10 a.m. to noon) or evening session (6:30 to 8:30 p.m.) Tuesdays March 29, April 5, 12, 26.

Participants will make a multi-use ship ‘n’ dip bowl in this four-session pottery class. Cost is $120 each session with supplies. Participants are asked to enter through the back entrance of the gallery.

Adult Pottery Class — 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays March 30, April 6,13 and 27.

Participants will create a wind chime using a design of their choice. Cost is $120 for all four classes and supplies.

• Jewelry Pendant Class with Tracy Davidson — 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 27. In this beginner level class, participants will make a pendant while learning to make granules, texturing, forming and light soldering. Cost is $55 and includes silver, chain and use of tools. For ages 12 years and up.

Children’s Art Classes — 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the second Saturday each month. Each class will be different and taught by different teachers. Each class is independent and will need its own registration. The class for each month will be advertised on the PAS website.

Conservation club to meet soon

LAPEL — Lapel Conservation Club, 1560 N. Main St., Lapel, will meet at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19.

Museum plans three-part history series

PENDLETON — Pendleton Historical Museum is running a three-part history series called Gathering at the Museum, with two sessions remaining:

• 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 20 — Lance Stevens will discuss the Civil War and its impact on Pendleton families.

• 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 24 — Anabeth Radeck will share information on the Fenian invasion of Canada and its local connection.

State historic preservation photo contest is on

The annual Historic Preservation Month photo contest, sponsored by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Historic Preservation & Archaeology, has begun.

The subject of entry photos must be in Indiana, at least 50 years old, and something that was designed/built by people.

It can be a building that’s been restored or one that needs some attention.

The idea is to show the value of historic preservation. Photos of exclusively natural elements are not eligible.

The complete rules and guidelines and the required entry form are at: on.IN.gov/preservation-month .

The photos should be JPEG files (less than 10MB). Each photo and the required entry form should be emailed to [email protected] as attachments. Photographers can submit up to three photos, but can submit only one photo and entry form per respective email.

The contest deadline is Friday, April 1.

Shred Day set for on April 16

PENDLETON — SecurEstate, 100 S. Main St., Pendleton, plans its 11th annual Shred Day from 9 to 11 a.m. April 16.

The event offers secure an on-site shredding to the public without charge.

There is no limit to the amount of paper people can bring. People can watch while their paper is shredded.

For this drive-thru drop off service, people are asked to enter the parking lot off Main Street.

PAS Artfest is back

PENDLETON — After two years absence because of COVID-19, Pendleton Artists Society’s “Artfest” is back, scheduled for 6 p.m. April 22.

There will be a Hawaiian-themed dinner catered by MSL Catering, art auction, games, a raffle and a cash bar at the Crystal Coop, 3400 W. 53rd St., Anderson.

There will be an art auction led by auctioneer Glen Wilson, and an Art of Fine Dining raffle with gift certificates from locally owned restaurants. Raffle tickets are one for $10 or three for $10. There will be a cash bar.

Tickets will cost $25 and go on sale Friday, March 4.

Groups of six to eight people may reserve a table by making that request when purchased tickets.

Museum plans day trip to Van Gogh exhibit

ANDERSON — Anderson Museum of Art is accepting registration for its day trip to Newfields in Indianapolis to see “The Lume: Van Gogh” exhibition on April 15.

The visit will allow people to explore a combination of art and cutting-edge technology with floor to ceiling projections of some of the most famous paintings in the world.

The trip will include breakfast at the museum, a charter bus ride to Newfields and access to the Newfields campus.

The trip is $60 for AMOA members and $70 for non-members.

The trip itinerary runs from 9 a.m. (breakfast at the museum) to 5 p.m. (bus arrives back from Indianapolis).

ANDERSON — Indiana Sheriffs’ Association is offering college scholarships to qualified high school seniors or college students pursuing a degree in criminal justice studies.

About 40 scholarships of $750 each will be awarded to qualifying students statewide.

To qualify, applicants must be Indiana residents, be a current member of the association or a dependent child or grandchild of a current member of the association, attend an Indiana college or university, major in a law enforcement field and enroll as a full-time student (12 hours).

Applications are available from high school counselors, Madison County Sheriff’s Department or indianasheriffs.org.

The applications must be completed and received by the sheriffs’ association by April 1.

Kids Summer Art Camp At PAS

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society plans Kids Camp 2022 for July 11-15 at Gallery 119, located at 119 W. State St.

At the camp, instructors will teach participants to create age appropriate art with various artists.

On the last evening, participants will have a display of the art projects created during the week for the parents to see before taking them home.

There is a morning (9-11:30 a.m.) and afternoon (12:30-3 p.m.) session for students ages 6-12. Class limit for each session is 30.

An Evening Session for people 12 and older is set for 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Class limit is nine.
