Gallery 119 offers art classes

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s Gallery 119 offers art classes on a regular basis.

The next classes are:

Acrylic Painting With Diane Burrell — 6:30 to 9 p.m. today, April 28, May 5, May 12 and May 19. Students will work on their own choice of subject matter. There will be a series of demonstrations with an emphasis on problem solving.

Oil Painting With Katy Burke — 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (with a lunch break) Wednesday, May 4. In this session, participants will paint a still life with oil paint. Cost is $55 per person with supplies provided. People using their own paint and brushes pay $45.

Pottery Classes With Janae Ledbetter — Beginner Pottery Class for ages 10 and older: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays May 4, 11, 18 and June 1. The class will teach how to create pieces using three pottery techniques and glazing. The cost is $120. Adult Pottery Sessions — 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, May 3, 10, 17 and 31; or 10 a.m. to noon May 4, 11, 18, and June 1. Participants will create a planters and picks (design of your choice). Cost for each session is $120 for classes and supplies. People are asked to enter the gallery through the back entrance.

Children’s Art Classes — 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the second Saturday each month. Each class will be different and taught by different teachers. Each class is independent and will need its own registration. The class for each month will be advertised on the PAS website.

Kids’ summer art camp set at PAS

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society plans Kids’ Camp 2022

for July 11-15 at Gallery 119, located at 119 W. State St.

At the camp, instructors will teach participants to create age-appropriate art with various artists.

On the last evening, participants will have a display of the art projects created during the week for the parents to see before taking them home.

There is a morning (9-11:30 a.m.) and afternoon (12:30-3 p.m.) session for students ages 6-12. Class limit for each session is 30.

An evening session for people 12 and older is set for 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Class limit is nine.

People can register at the gallery in person or by phone 765-778-0986 during regular hours, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Music department plans fundraiser

LAPEL — The Lapel Music Department will sponsor a mattress sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 30, in the Lapel High School commons area.

Mattresses of all kinds will fill the area to give patrons a wide selection.

Profits benefit the Lapel bands and the Lapel high school choirs.

Flag diplay, honor service planned

PENDLETON — A field of more than 100 American flags will form a display from May 4-7, at the entrance to the Summerlake community, to honor all first responders, health care workers and members of the military (active and veterans).

The display will be located along State Road 13 in the yard of Grandview Church.

The community is invited to a service at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at Grandview Church, on the National Day of Prayer, during which frontline workers and military will be recognized for their sacrifice and dedication.

Grandview Church is located at 9064 W. Grandview Blvd., Pendleton.

Church plans abundance meal

MARKLEVILLE — Christian Women’s Fellowship “Comfort Keepers” of the East Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Markleville plan its monthly “God Abundance Meal” for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday May 11, in the lower fellowship hall.

The menu will be chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, assorted desserts,and drink. It will be dine in or take out.

The meal is open to the public, and the church, 124 Main St., is accessible to those with disabilities.

The next monthly meal is set for June 8.

Foundation creates internship

PENDLETON — South Madison Community Foundation is offering a philanthropy internship beginning in the spring

The intern will complete a sample of activities that provide a complete picture of the requirements to staff a community foundation, from account reconciliation to the design and implementation of community projects.

Specifically, the intern will:

· Provide assistance to the executive director with emphasis in enhancing community engagement and administering functions of the foundation.

· Position is estimated at 20 hours per week and $15 per hour.

· Required: Full or part time enrolled college or graduate student who has completed one year of higher education.
