Arabians place seventh at HHC meet

FORTVILLE — Ava Jarrell finished second in the 800-meter run and Whitney Warfel was third in the shot put at the Hoosier Heritage Conference Girls Track and Field Championships at Mt. Vernon High School on Tuesday, May 10.

The Arabians finished seventh as a team.

Jarrell, a freshman, finished her runner-up race in 2:29.96. Delta’s Nicki Southerland, who won a meet-best three events, was first in 2:15.49.

Warfel, a junior, had a best distance of 37-feet, 7-inches, just three inches behind second-place finisher Gretchen Moore of Yorktown. New Palestine’s Quin Lumbley won the event with a throw of 40-feet, 2-inches.

New Palestine won the event with 115.33 points. Pendleton Heights scored 49.

Another Arabian freshman, Kaycie Warfel, placed fourth in the 200 (27.32 seconds). She was also fifth in the 100 (13.50).

Pendleton Heights had two fifth-place finishes in relays.

In the 1,600 relay, Jarrell, Kaydance Mirante, Delaney Fultz and Abby Fisher picked up four team points with a time of 4:32.10. Yorktown won the race in 4:14.

In the 3,200 relay, the Arabians earned a fifth-place finish from Jaycee Thurman, Jarrell, Hadley Walker and Jillian Green, who finished in 11:17.29. Mt. Vernon won with a meet record time of 9:56.68.
