NOBLESVILLE — Arabian Cohen Gray shot a 78 at Harbor Trees in the Noblesville boys golf sectional on June 6, good enough to advance to regional play.

The junior was the top Arabian in the match as the team tied for fifth place with Hamilton Heights with a 355.

“I didn’t hit the ball well off the tees or with the irons, so it was wedges around the greens that saved me,” Gray said. “It was a tough 78. It was a grind all day.”

Noblesville won the sectional with a score of 310, follwowed by Fishers and Hamilton Southeastern. The top three finishing teams go on to the regional.

“The kids came out and played pretty well. Cohen Gray played phenomenal. He had a couple of up and down holes but bounced back really well,” said Coach Hunter Cook. “Next year should be a very good year. That 355 will be a goal for next year to lower that.”

Lapel finished in sixth place with 368 for the day.

Jacob Erwin shot an 80 to lead the Bulldogs. Senior Corbin Renihan played his final match as a Bulldog but will continue to play at Columbia International University in South Carolina.

Most of the Arabian squad will return next season.

The Players Club in Muncie was set to play host to the Muncie Central Regional on June 9.

The course is one Gray likes.

“It’s one of my favorites. I always play pretty decent there,” Gray said. “We’ve played up there three or four times this year.”
