Jarrell runs well at state meet

BLOOMINGTON — It was a great way to finish off a freshman season.

Pendleton Heights frosh Ava Jarrell placed 16th in the 800-meter run at the IHSAA Girls Track and Field State Finals at Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex on the campus of Indiana University.

Jarrell ran a time of 2:21.26. She was seeded 26th of 27 runners, with a regional time of 2:22.40.

Running in the first of two 800 heat races, Jarrell placed fourth of 13 in her race. She was one of three freshmen in the race and placed second among the three first-year high school runners.

Huntington North’s Addison Wiley won the race with a state-record time of 2:06.26. The previous mark was set in 2019 by Elizabeth Stanhope of Pike High School. She ran a time of 2:06.62.
