PSC finishes second at Fifth Annual Stars and Stripes Invitational

PENDLETON — A second place finish among 11 teams with a number of top finishers made for a successul Fifth Annual Stars And Stripes Invitational for the Pendleton Swim Club.

The event took place at Alvin D. Brown Memorial Pool on June 24-25.

PSC co-hosted the event with Mt. Vernon Premier Aquatics. There were nearly 200 swimmers from ages 6-18 and 76 events.

“Our Stars and Stripes meet always attracts incredible talent from all over the state and this year was no exception,” PSC head coach Amanda Safford said. “This meet requires an all-hands-on-deck approach. We were fortunate to have Mt Vernon Premier Aquatics as our co-host this year. Stars and Stripes takes a great deal of advance preparation given the large amount of team registrations.

“We are grateful to all our volunteers and corporate sponsors who helped make this a special day for our athletes on so many levels.”

MVPA won the team event with 2,046.50 points.

PSC was second with 1,705.Trojans Aquatic Club was third with 1,033.50.

Other team scores were: Mooresville Area Swim team 825.50, Cardinal Community Swim Club 716, New Palestine Aquatics Clubs 666.50, Shelby County Aquatic Club 371, Warren Aquatic Club 250, Archway Swim Club 173, Oak Hill Swim Club 165 and Jay County Swim Club 96.

PSC had a number of winners including, Evan Ray (boys 11-12 age group, 50-meter butterfly, 50 breaststroke, 50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 200 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay), Aidan Ballart (boys 11-12, 100 backstroke), Nathan Hollendonner (boys 11-12, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 200 IM, 200 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay), Jack Hutson (boys 11-12, 50 backstroke, 200 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay), Zach Smith (boys 11-12, 200 freestyle relay), Conner Hessler (boys 11-12, 200 medley relay), Simon Summers (boys 10-under, 200 freestyle relay), Blake Thomas (boys 10-under, 200 freestyle relay), Easton Flees (boys 10-under, 200 freestyle relay), Mason McClellan (boys 10-under, 200 freestyle relay), Grace McKinney (girls 13-over girls, 200 IM, 200 freestyle) and Fiona Finn (girls 10-under, 200 freestyle).

The 11-12 year old 200 medley relay team of Hutson, Ray, Hollendonner and Hessler advanced to the state meet.

PSC runner-up finishes came from, Ian Christian (boys 13-over 100 backstroke), Hutson (boys 11-12, 50 breaststroke, 100 freestyle), Hessler (boys 11-12, 50 freestyle), Hollendonner (boys 11-12, 100 breaststroke), Braxton Greer (boys 11-12, 200 medley relay), Ballart (boys 11-12, 200 medley relay), Smith (boys 11-12, 200 medley relay), Wyatt Krieg (boys 11-12, 200 medley relay), McClellan (boys 10-under, 100 backstroke, 50 freestyle, 50 breaststroke, 100 freestyle), Serena Richardson (girls 13-over, 200 breaststroke), McKinney (girls 13-over, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay), Stella Payne (girls 13-over, 200 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay), Mallory Gentry (girls 13-over, 200 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay), Ella Rector (girls 13-over, 200 freestyle relay), and Sophie Kaster (girls 13-over, 200 medley relay).

Taking home third-place finishes from the Pendleton club included, Evan McKinney (boys 13-over, 100 backstroke), Hessler (boys 12-under, 200 IM, boys 11-12 200 freestyle relay), Smith (boys 11-12, 100 backstroke), Hutson (boys 11-12, 50 freestyle), Ballart (boys 11-12 50 backstroke, 200 freestyle relay), Greer (boys 11-12, 200 freestyle relay), Krieg (boys 11-12 200 freestyle relay), Easton Flees (boys 10-under, 50 freestyle), Rector (girls 13-over, 200 backstroke, 100 backstroke), Gentry (girls 13-over 100 freestyle, 50 freestyle), Fiona Finn (girls 10-under, 50 breaststroke, 200 freestyle relay), Lauren Lamper (girls 10-under, 200 freestyle relay), Skylar Elsten (girls 10-under, 200 freestyle relay), and Evelyn Flees (girls 10-under, 200 freestyle relay).

In addition, PSC had two swimmers among the top three individual point scorers in their age groups. Fiona Finn was second in the girls 10-under division. Mason McClellan was third in boys 10-under division. Evan Ray and Nathan Hollendonner were second and third, respectively, in the boys 11-12 group.

PSC is an organization for competitive youth swimmers of all skill levels ages 5-18; swimmers compete at local, state and national meets throughout the year.

Registration for the fall season will take place in August.
