Farmers market continues

PENDLETON — Pendleton, Indiana, Farmers Market started its five-month season on Saturday, May 7, in Falls Park, with about 60 vendors, including a few junior vendors.

The market runs 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays, through Oct. 8, in Falls Park. Falls Park Drive is shut to automobile traffic so people can stroll through the vendors safely.

Memorial walk bricks for sale

PENDLETON —Memorial bricks are on sale for use in Veterans Celebration of Service Garden, an Eagle Scout walkway project being done at Pendleton American Legion Post 117.

Bricks cost $30 and will include a service member’s name, branch of service and years of service.

The bricks will be incorporated into the walkway, which will measure 4-by16-feet on either side of entrance ramp at the Legion.

Boy Scout Mark Nielsen of Troop 232 in Pendleton is leading the project.

Order forms for bricks are available at the Legion, Pendleton Community Public Library, Falls Perk Coffee House and Citizens State Bank. Deadline to place orders is Aug. 29.

Gallery 119 offers art classes

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s Gallery 119 offers art classes on a regular basis.

The next classes are:

Watercolor with Judy Crist — 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 27. Crist will instruct how to paint a “Hummingbird Sipping On A Flower.” Cost of the class is $45 with all supplies provided.

Children’s Art Classes — 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the second Saturday each month. Each class will be different and taught by different teachers. Each class is independent and will need its own registration. The class for each month will be advertised on the PAS website.

Other art society events:

3-D Art Show — through Sept. 7 at Gallery 119.

Trivia Night — 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at American Legion Hall, 611 W. State St., Pendleton. Indy Trivia with Ryan McDuffee will be the host. Entry fee is $10 per person. First-place team wins $100. Food and beverage will be available for $10, consisting of pulled pork, slaw and fries. Drinks cost extra. Individuals and teams welcome.

Lions Club offers park concert series

PENDLETON — Pendleton Lions Club is sponsoring several concerts in Falls Park.

Rock Bottom Boys of Madison County bluegrass trio performed June 26; Fall Creek Valley Community Band (formerly Lapel Community Band) played July 31.

Pendleton Heights High School Band Marching Arabians and Madison County Band Directors’ Jazz Band are scheduled for Aug. 28.

The show starts at 6 p.m. near the park gazebo. There is no admission charge, refreshments are available and people can bring their own lawn chairs and shade umbrella.

Poetry society accepts annual contest entries

INDIANA — Poetry Society of Indiana is accepting entries for its annual poetry contest.

This year’s contest features 27 categories, with prize money going to the top three placings in most of them, totaling more than $1,800.

The entry fee is $10 for PSI members and $15 for non-members.

The fee entitles a poet to enter any and all of the individual categories, but with the limitation of only one poem per category. The contest submission deadline is Sept. 1.

Winners will be announced during PSI’s annual Fall Rendezvous event Oct. 7-9.

Last year’s contest had 680 poems entered by 72 poets in 23 categories, and a total of $1,593 in prize money was awarded.

ParkFest to return

PENDLETON — ParkFest 2022 is set for Thursday, Sept. 8, at Barnhart Field in Falls Park.

This outdoor concert event, featuring Stella Luna and the Satellites, is in its second year and is a fundraiser for the park.

The event schedule is:

5:30 p.m. — gates open

6 p.m. — Family Fun Zone opens and DJ Jim Noggle

7 p.m. — Stella Luna and the Satellites

Family Fun Zone offers games and activities for kids. There will also be a selfie photo area, sidewalk chalk drawing contest and much more fun for the entire family.

Tickets cost $15 for 11 and older; no charge for those 10 and younger.

A four-ticket FestPack costs $50.

People are invited to bring their own picnic (BYOP) — food, drink, chairs and blanket. A BYOP contest includes prizes for the best decorated space.

ParkFest 2022 T-shirts will be available for purchase while they last (children’s, $10; adult, $20).

Duck race set for Sept. 10

PENDLETON — The Ninth Annual Friends of the Library Lucky Duck Race will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the falls in Falls Park.

The Finish Line Party will start at 1:30 p.m. behind the Community Building.

There will be a DJ helping keep people engaged in race activities.

The goal is race 1,000 ducks. To reserve a duck, visit Pendleton Community Public Library or find the duck booth at one of several local community events scheduled for August and September.

Duck entries cost $5. Proceeds will benefit the library.
