FRANKTON — A long-time rivalry between the Lapel Bulldogs and Frankton Eagles on the football field played out under the lights at Frankton, with the Bulldogs picking up their first win of the season 21-7.

With Frankton coming off a stunning win against ranked Tipton last week, and the Bulldogs hungry to overcome an opening night loss to Hamilton Heights 34-7, both teams had something to prove.

The win was the 14 straight for the Bulldogs over Frankton.

Senior running back Tyler Dollar showed why he is considered one of the top in state with 203 yards rushing for the night and one 91-yard TD. Dollar is currently listed at No. 12 in the state for rushing yards.

Quarterback junior Luke Alexander accounted for the Bulldogs other two touchdowns. Alexander’s numbers for the night were greatly improved from last week as he rushed for 54 yards and passed for 102 and had one interception.

The Bulldogs faced an Eagles defense that was stronger than the score indicated as Frankton kept Lapel from getting to the endzone the entire fourth quarter.

Adding to the Bulldog offensive effort was junior receiver Nick Witte, who had six receptions for 77 yards.

Seniors Luke Sundheimer and Matt Carpenter took down Frankton quarterback Gage Rastetter three times for the game, and the Lapel defense held the Eagles passing yards to just 49. Rastetter was the leading rusher for the Eagles with 82 yards.

On Friday, Sept 2, Lapel (1-1) travels to Shenandoah. Last year, the Bulldogs defeated the Raiders 40-21.

Last week, Shenandoah lost to 7th-ranked in 2A Heritage Christian 52-33 but opened their season with a 56-0 win versus Elwood.

The Raiders have a strong running game with Mason Lewis with an early season 177 yards average per game rushing, followed by Dylan Ayres with 121 yards per game average.

Lewis has also been their top scorer with six TDs to his credit.

Friday’s game is set for 7:30 p.m.
