PENDLETON — Turning around some mistakes made in the Week 1 loss to Lebanon, the Pendleton Heights Arabians rolled onto John Broughton Field and stormed off with a 42-6 win against the visiting Anderson Indians.

“We haven’t arrived. We have serious goals here. We have serious kids. We did enough tonight,” coach Jed Richman said.

In what started as a close first quarter ending in an Arabian 7-6 lead, turned into a rout beginning in the second quarter. The Arabians put 21 points on the board in the second and 14 in the second half.

Sophomore quarterback Colton Frank made his first start for the Arabians after coming into the Lebanon game last week.

By virtue of injuries to quarterback Tyce Tomey and Isaac Wilson, Frank got the nod to lead the Arabians and showed he was ready.

Frank passed for 62 yards, throwing two TDs in the process and earning one himself on a short run to the endzone.

“I think their (Anderson) quarterback’s tough as nails, but Colton Frank was tougher tonight. He played exceptional,” Richman said.

With the abundance of running backs in the Arabian stable, Frank was able to take advantage of the handoff, which added to the scoring.

Nate DeRolf scored twice for the Arabians, first running in 41 yards on a reverse in the first quarter and again in the second half on a 23 –yard pass from Frank.

“I saw Nate DeRolf all over the place. He’s a playmaker,” Richman said.

Also scoring for the Arabians were seniors Jalen Jordan and Quinton DeVault and junior Eli Arthur.

While the offense found success, the Arabian defense was on point setting up two of the Pendleton TDs.

Brennan Adams intercepted an Anderson pass setting up an Arabian score, and Arthur blocked an Indian punt on the 2-yard line, which resulted in the Arabians fourth TD of the night. Adams, Peyton Pollock and Bo Surface all were credited with quarterback sacks.

“I’m real proud of our kids. We put them through a lot. We were humbled Week 1, but it’s good to get that win at home with a great crowd and awesome atmosphere,” Richman said.

With a win under their belt, the Arabians turn their attention to Friday’s Hoosier Heritage Conference contest at New Castle. The Trojans are 1-1 coming off a 21-14 loss to Triton Central.

The Arabians defense will have to focus on senior running back Jon Eberhart, who is averaging 84 yards rushing per game for the Trojans, and leading receiver Quinton Boatright.

“We have to be better to beat New Castle. That kid can run,” Richman said.

They will also have to keep Trojan Wyatt Maiden at bay. The senior linebacker has recorded 11 solo tackles in two games for New Castle.

“That’s the great thing about our season. It keeps getting us ready. We have to get better and better.”

Richman said his Arabians are developing their depth because of their injuries.

“Guys stepped up and did a great job,” Richman said.

Game time at New Castle is 7:30 p.m. and will be carried live on WEEM 91.7.
