There are no newspapers containing records of the 2005 Lapel Post in the Lapel Branch Library. How could we not cover the year 2005 in Lapel, Indiana. We made headlines all over Indiana when our Bulldogs won the State Championship in Indiana High School Basketball. Not only that, but for years Indiana has been known as the High School Basketball Capitol of America! When you win in Indiana, it is very, very special.

In 2005, Lapel had some other things going on. Congressman Mike Pence spent a lot of time in our town and at the Lapel High School, talking to students. “A once in a Lifetime Moment.” There was a town of 1,800 people. No one ever heard of this town, but it did exist. A high school of 300 no one would ever guess what later came to be. Game after game the crowd got larger. They won the conference. Then sectional, regional and semistate; All that was left was state. The lights dimmed in Conseco as they announced the teams. The crowd was roaring. The team was doing the best they could. Finally, they were State Champs! That no one would ever forget.” – Lauren Steele
