Lions fruit sale on

LAPEL — Lapel Lions Club is taking orders for fresh citrus fruit from Florida.

The cost of a 20-pound (2/5 of a bushel) of navel oranges or red grapefruit is $35. A 40-pound (4/5 of a bushel) of each is $45.

To place an order, or for more details, contact Karen Roudebush at 765-617-2300 or any Lapel Lions Club member.

Orders must be placed by Wednesday, Nov. 16.

Fruit should be available for pick-up from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Lions building, 329 S. Main St., Lapel.

Legion plans garden ceremony

PENDLETON — American Legion Post 117, 611 W. State St., Pendleton, will commemorate the Veterans Celebration of Service Garden at 4 p.m. on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11.

Other inidividual Legion events planned include:

• Legion Farmer’s Market, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov 19. Home made biscuits and gravy will be available.

• Legion members update meeting, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov 22

• Crossroads band to perform 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Nov 23

Offers regular legion events include:

• Wing Night is scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays (except Thanksgiving), with all-you-can-eat wings costing $12.

• On Fridays, tenderloins are available starting at noon; a Treasure Hunt drawing takes place at 7:30 p.m.

• Every Sunday is Football Sunday, starting at noon. People are invited to wear their team colors

• The Legion’s general membership meeting is set for 6 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday each month.

Gallery 119 offers art classes

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s Gallery 119 offers art classes on a regular basis.

The next classes are:

• Kintsugi Workshop with Janae Ledbetter — 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 19 and 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 20. This two-day Kintsugi workshop is titled “Beautifully Broken.” Kintsugi is a craft dedicated to the restoration of fine pottery. In this process, shattered pieces of pristine vases are artfully rejoined with a gold laced epoxy. The shattered piece has forever been changed, even destroyed, but by using Kintsugi the beauty not only survives but thrives. Cost is $65 and includes supplies.

• Children’s Art Classes — 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the second Saturday each month. Each class will be different and taught by different teachers. Each class is independent and will need its own registration. The class for each month will be advertised on the PAS website.

• PAS Juried Art Show — 10th Annual Juried Art Show will run from Nov. 4 to Dec. 23, sponsored by R&R Engineering Company. The show has several categories: 2-D, 3-D and photography.

Talks will explore county’s history

ANDERSON — Madison County Historical Society Inc. is presenting series of “First Sunday” presentations covering the History of Madison County, set for 2 p.m. monthly in the Bowman Room at Museum of Madison County History, 11 W. 11th Street, Anderson.

Madison County Historian Stephen T. Jackson will deliver the presentations, which provide an overview of Madison County’s history through historical highlights of each township.

Presentations will run about an hour each and are free and the public is welcome.

Previous talks were Fall Creek Township (Sept. 4) and Adams Township (Oct. 2).

YMCA Gobble Wobble

PENDLETON — The 10th annual YMCA of Madison County Gobble Wobble 5K Walk/Run is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 24.

The event begins at 9 a.m. at Pendleton YMCA, 520 Falls Park Drive., Pendleton.

The cost for people 6 and older is $40 on the day of the event or $30 for pre-registration. There no cost for ages 5 and younger.

Registration proceeds benefit the YMCA of Madison County’s Annual Campaign, which provides scholarships to children and families in need.

Participants will receive a dry wick shirt of their size of choice, race bib, and sponsor grab bag if signed up before the T-shirt deadline of Nov. 8.

Lapel Gobble Wobble on, too

LAPEL — The Ninth annual Gobble Wobble 5K in Lapel is set for 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 24 at Lapel Food Pantry.

People can pre-register at 5kgobblewobble.com or the day of the race in person.

Proceeds will benefit the food pantry.

LHS hardwood to be renamed in honor

LAPEL — Lapel High School will honor former coach and Hall of Famer, Jimmie Howell, before tip-off of the varsity basketball game on Nov. 26, 2022.

In honor of his coaching accomplishments and dedication to the Lapel community, the basketball court will be renamed to “Jimmie Howell Court.”

There will be a reception in the school commons immediately following the game.
