LAPEL — Lapel Town Council has approved the final plat for a new 50-plus-home subdivision.
At the town’s regular January meeting, the council approved the request by Arbor Homes for the new subdivision, Tuscany, to be located to the east of Fifth Street and Central Avenue.
The subdivision is being developed by Oakmont Development and is estimated to include 51 or 52 homes. Arbor Homes traditionally builds two- to four-bedroom single-family homes.
“We have developers reaching out to us quite often wanting to bring homes and things like that to the town. A big reason I wanted to run for council is to keep the small-town value of Lapel and try to control the growth that comes,” Lapel Town Council President Noah Bozell said. “But I’m not saying this growth is a bad thing, because it’s not. It’s going to happen, and it’s inevitable, but I think that we need to control that growth.”
According to Bozell, there are still details to be worked out for Tuscany before new build permits will be issued, including aspects of the roads that will run through the subdivision.
Once permits are issued, work on the subdivision will begin almost immediately. Bozell said he expects that to happen in either the spring or early summer.
“I think this is going to be great for the small-town community, and the businesses here in town,” Bozell said. “I truly think it’s just going to be great for our town.”
