PENDLETON — Three Pendleton Town Council seats and the clerk-
treasurer position are up for election this year, and with the deadline to file for the May 2 primary passing on Friday, the choices voters will have in November have become clearer.
There won’t be much of a choice for town voters until then, however.
On the Republican side, newcomer Cory Hall filed unopposed in the primary for town council District 1, and incumbent Shane Davis filed unopposed for District 5-at-large.
Republican incumbent Clerk-Treasurer Willie Boles also filed unopposed.
On the Democratic side, incumbent Councilman Chet Babb filed unopposed in the primary for District 1, and incumbent Steve Denny filed unopposed for District 2.
Joe Noel filed unopposed in for clerk-treasurer.
While Babb and Boles know who their challengers will be in the General Election, it might be several months before the other two incumbents know who they will be facing — if anyone at all — in the fall.
The deadline for parties to fill vacancies on the ballot for the General Election — for Republicans to field a candidate against Denny and for Democrats to field a candidate against Davis — is noon July 3, Madison County Election Director Mary Retherford said.
Retherford said candidates for offices in Ingalls, Lapel and Markleville will not be on the primary ballot, and a complete list of them will not be known until after Aug. 1.
