Volunteers needed for blooms on State Street

PENDLETON — South Madison Community Foundation is helping make sure State Street in Pendleton will have new blooms on display this year.

Pendleton has purchased 32 new flowerpots and six planter boxes to be placed beside the light poles from Main Street to Broadway. The foundation is helping organize volunteers to assist with planting in mid-May and watering throughout the season.

All planting materials and hands-on instruction will be provided for the one-day “plantathon,” and volunteers who sign up to water will be provided with watering jugs and fertilizer.

Planting will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday, May 16.

“This is a great opportunity for individuals and groups to have hands-on involvement in the beautification of the downtown,” said Lisa Floyd, the foundation’s Community Projects Steward.

Watering will be requested on a weekly basis but flexible to the adopters’ schedule.
