PENDLETON — Many businesses throughout Pendleton will be decorated for the occasion during Christmas in Pendleton on Saturday, Nov. 11.
One business with window displays is Steve’s Flower Cart, 105 W. State St., which turned 50 this year.
Owner Steve Huth Sr. said he started Steve’s Flowers and Gifts in Indianapolis in 1973, and bought The Flower Cart of Pendleton in 2012. The Flower Cart of Pendleton, which he renamed Steve’s Flower Cart after he bought it, coincidentally was opened in 1973 by the original owners, Diane and Mark Ashley, making the local shop 50 years old, too.
Huth said he participates in Christmas in Pendleton in the same way the Ashleys did.
“We just join in as a business and decorate the store up, and prepare for people to come in and see all our Christmas items, and gifts and things,” Huth said. “We just prepare well so people can enjoy themselves.”
The business started preparing for this year’s Christmas in Pendleton more than a month ago, he said.
He said he’s hoping for a bit of a chill in the air on the day of the event because that prompts people to go inside stores more.
“I don’t want it to be ice cold, I don’t want it to be freezing, I just want it to be cool,” he said.
“We serve cookies and hot mulled cider and punch,” he said. “People come in for the hot mulled cider.”
