Quilts in the Park winners named

PENDLETON — Steve Pollard and Peggy Starr of Anderson took their time going through Pendleton Historical Museum on Saturday, not looking at the regular items on display there but rather the items draped in front of them: quilts, dozens of them, hung upstairs and down, all part of Spring Valley Quilt Guild’s annual Quilts in the Park show.
“They’re actually really cool,” Pollard said, as he kept his eyes fixed on the fabric creations. “It takes a lot of time, hard work and dedication — they’re all really good.
“I want to learn how to quilt,” Starr said. But, “I don’t know if I have time.”
The show featured 92 entries in 16 categories.
Categories included bed and wall quilts in large and small sizes, machine- and hand-quilted, and art and animal kingdom.
All but two judge’s choice categories feature first- through third-place awards. The judge’s choice categories have a single winner.
An experienced quilt judge from the Hamilton County area, Joyce Blakely, judged the show.
About 275 people visited the show, which ran Thursday through Sunday.
Proceeds from the $5 entry fee, along with more than $1,500 in raffle earning and funds from other sales during the show, will be presented to the museum at a later time.
Last year the guild gave the museum a total of $3,000.
