PAS Third Annual Plein Air Competition
PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s Third Annual Plein Air Competition is Sept. 28.
The competition is open to any painter. There will be three divisions in the competition: Division 1, adults; Division 2, children up to age 14 (must be accompanied by an adult); Division 3, ages 14-18.
This is an open-air painting using any medium, no size limitations. Framing is optional. In case of rain, participants may complete their work from any protected area of their choosing. Participants are welcome to paint around downtown Pendleton and surrounding parks and historical settings.
Participants may register either online at https://pasgallery119.org/ or at the headquarters at Gallery 119, 119 W. State St., Pendleton. Check-in is 9-10 a.m. There will be an entry fee of $25 for adults or $30 for same-day registration. Youth registration is $10 each.
A light lunch will be provided.
Art created the day of the event will be displayed in Gallery 119 and judged. Winners will be announced following the judging. Judge is Marylin Witt.

Art classes on the schedule
PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society has a variety of art classes on its schedule, including:
Jewelry Class with Tracy Davidson — 1-6 p.m. Sept. 29. In this beginner or intermediate class, students will design unique rings involving lots of texture. It involves simple soldering, and participants will choose from an assortment of gemstones. Cost is $65.
Pottery with Janae Ledbetter — 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Sept. 24, Oct. 1, Oct. 8 and Oct. 29 (glazing). Students will explore applying pottery decals to their project. Pottery decals are applied like temporary tattoos, but once the piece is fired they become permanent. Students will handle building a bird feeder and will be taught how to apply the decals. All skill levels are welcome. Cost: $140, supplies included.
Paint Like Van Gogh with Katy Burke — 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 2. Participants will paint Vincent Van Gogh’s “ Starry Night” in this beginning oil painting class. Cost: $50, plus $8 if using provided paints and brushes.
Beginning Watercolor with Katy Burke — 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 16. Participants will paint a watercolor landscape. Cost: $50, plus $8 if using provided paints and brushes.
Baklava Class with Teddi Mangas-Coon — noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 19. Participants will have a chance to learn how to make Baklava, a layered pastry dessert. They will join restaurateur Teddi Mangas-Coon in the Gallery 119 kitchen. Cost: $30.

American Legion plans activities
PENDLETON — American Legion Post 117, 611 W. State St., Pendleton, plans the following events — open to members and non-members:
Sept. 30 — Early Bird cutoff for membership.
Regular events
All-you-can-eat wings: 5-8 p.m. Thursdays (upcoming, entertainment by Jeff Ash)
Lunch specials (as well as regular menu): starting at 11 a.m. weekdays, until food runs out
Happy Hour: 3-6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays
Treasure Hunt drawing: 7 p.m. Fridays (upcoming, D.J. Dex and karaoke, 8-11)
The Legion’s general membership meeting is 6 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday each month. Public is welcome.
The facility is smoke-free.
The Legion also is actively recruiting volunteers and sponsors to expand its service.

Purdue Alumni Club plans Oct. 8 dinner
MADISON COUNTY — Purdue Alumni Club of Anderson and Madison County plans its Fall Dinner meeting for 6 p.m. Oct. 8 at Purdue Polytechnic Anderson, 1920 Purdue Parkway, Anderson.
Following dinner and a short business meeting, special guest Trevor Foley, senior director of international engagements and alumni travel, Purdue for Life Foundation, will speak on the Purdue Travel Services.
A member of the Purdue for Life staff will be on hand to answer questions about the alumni association.
The dinner will have an Italian theme.
The price for the meal is $15 for people 13 and older and $10 for people 12 and younger.
Proceeds will benefit the club’s scholarship fund.
Purdue alumni as well as friends of Purdue are welcome.
Alumni and friends will have the opportunity to learn about travel opportunities.
Donations to the scholarship fund will be accepted.

Town seeks input on revitalization plan
PENDLETON — The Town of Pendleton is in the early stages of submitting a planning grant application to Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs to develop a new Downtown Revitalization Plan.
Planning grants are funded with Federal Community Development Block Grant dollars from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The program aims to encourage communities to plan for long-term holistic community development.
