Pendleton Heights show choir sendoff today

PENDLETON — The three Pendleton Heights High School show choirs are headed to Indiana State School Music Association state finals this weekend, and a pep rally and sendoff are planned for 7 p.m. today, Thursday, March 14, in the school auditorium.

There is no charge to attend.

The choirs — New Edition, Emerald Suites, and Pendletones — will compete Saturday, March 16, at Franklin Central High School, 6215 S. Franklin Road, Indianapolis.

Pendleton Heights is competing in the Small School State Show Choir Finals. Emerald Suites is set to perform at 9 a.m.; New Edition at 1:30 p.m.; and Pendletones at 6 p.m.

Admission will be available at Door No. 8W (Performance Entrance) located off the West Parking Lot. Student admission is $11 per session and adult admission is $13 per session. Full Event admission for all three sessions (Friday Vocal Jazz and both Saturday Show Choir sessions) is $18 for students and $20 for adults.

Artists society offers art classes

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society plans art classes regularly at Gallery 119, 119 W. State St. in Pendleton:

• Diane Burrell’s two-day Enamel Cloisonne Workshop — 9 to 5 p.m Saturday, March 23, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 24. Burrell will lead students in creating a contemporary design based on Frank Lloyd Wright stained glass windows, including teaching how to fire on a clear base coat, create tension with cloisonne wire, wash enamels, wet pack and fire down gold and silver leaf, and stone and finish with a flash firing. Suggestions for setting the piece will be provided. The fee is $75 and includes all supplies.

• Flip and drag acrylic pours with Brenda Jarrett — 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 31. This is a beginner class for ages 12 and older. Cost for the class is $35 and includes all supplies. Class is limited to 10 people.

• Oil painting with Gini Deaton — 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 17. Class will use a wet-on-wet technique to paint a scenic church called “Evening Prayers.” The painting is on an 11-by-14-inch canvas. All supplies are included with the $60 class fee.

• Watercolor with Judy Crist — 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 27 (with a lunch break). Participants will paint a family of chickens, while Crist teaches several techniques. Class cost is $50, which does not include supplies. Class size is limited to 10.

Lapel pre-K, K roundup set

LAPEL — Lapel Elementary Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Roundup is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. March 21.

To enroll in kindergarten for 2019-20, children must be 5 by Aug. 1, 2019.

To enroll in pre- kindergarten, children must be 4 by Aug. 1, 2019.

To complete enrollment for a child, parents or guardians must provide proof of residency, a birth certificate and current shots record.

Group seeks local history contributions

PENDLETON — The Town of Pendleton Bicentennial Committee is accepting photos and information relating to the town’s past and present for a coffee table book called “A Celebration of Pendleton: 1820-2020 — Then and Now.”

The committee wants pictures and information related to agriculture, buildings, businesses, churches, local events, schools, transportation, and legends and lore.

The book also will have a patron section, which will be available for a charge to local businesses, churches, families and organizations. Those who buy a page or half-page will be able to submit photos along with a written history.

Poetry contest to help literacy

ANDERSON — Submissions to the Poetic Earth Contest, to benefit The Madison County Literacy Coalition Inc., will be accepted through March 15.

People may submit up to five nature-related poems with a 32-line limit each. Previously published poems are acceptable.

The contest is sponsored by The Anderson Book Nook, www.andersonbooknook.org

There is a $1-per-poem entry fee.

Art Fest to include BBQ, auction

ANDERSON — Pendleton Artists Society is planning an Art Fest, Art Auction & Bar-B-Q for 6 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at the Crystal Coop, 3400 W. 53rd St., Anderson.

Included is Greenfield’s BBQ, a cash bar and The Stable. Dennis Jackson will be auctioneer.

Tickets for the event cost $25 per person or $180 for a table of eight.

Shred Day coming up in Pendleton

PENDLETON — The eighth annual Shred Day at SecurEstate is scheduled for 9 to 11 a.m. April 20, at 100 S. Main St., at the corner of State and Main streets in Pendleton.

The company conducts Shred Day as a community service and to raise awareness of securely disposing of documents in an eco-friendly manner.

Ray’s Trash will have an industrial shredding truck at the office, where people will be able to watch their documents being shredded.

The event is open to the public, and there is no limit to how much people can have shredded.
