Donald R. "Don" Shafer, 78, Lapel, died Friday, May 25, 2012, peacefully with his family at his bedside. He was born on Feb. 23, 1934, in Boxholm, Iowa to Ray and Mildred (Tonkinson) Shafer.
He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eunice (Carlson) Shafer; daughters, Teresa (Dirk) DeWolfe of Anaheim, Calif., Jill (Greg) Stephenson of Anderson, and Kim (Rich) Wagner of Princeton, Mass.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Frona Toyne and Elaine Chiles.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel with Pastor Doug Barton officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 Main Street, Lapel.
