Anita Joan (Miller) Michael, 80, passed away Oct. 2, 2012, at her residence following an extended illness.

She was born Dec. 5, 1931, in Anderson and spent her youth there before moving to Pendleton where she graduated from Pendleton High School in 1950. She lived in Columbus the following year before returning to Pendleton.

Joan taught private kindergarten classes with Mrs. Charlene Daugherty in Pendleton and after raising her children, was employed at Hook’s Drugs in Pendleton.

She was a member of Pendleton First United Methodist Church and Tri Kappa Sorority in Pendleton.

Joan was a very devoted wife and mother. Dale and Joan shared a very special relationship. Family was always first. The love she had for her family was the most important thing in the world. She was selfless and tireless when it came to caring for family.

Survivors include her husband, A. Dale Michael whom she married on July 23, 1950; children, Marta (Gary) Nunley of Pendleton, Lisa (Ron) Harlow of Pendleton, Ann Cox of Pendleton, Jason (Teri) Michael of Anderson, and Laura (Martin) Burke of Lake Forest, Ill; grandchildren, Heidi Moore, Trent Miller, Eddie Cyman, Erica Thomas, Ashley Cox, Tessa Denen, Corey Cox, Kelsey Burke, Ross Burke, and Maggie Burke; great-grandchildren, Tory Vire, Trey Miller, Gavin Swinford, Brock Cyman, Carter Denen and Vann Miller; sister, Sandra (Bob) Hilligoss of Anderson; and brother, Sol (Jan) Miller of Bonita Springs, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sol and Hazel (Chambers) Miller; son, John D. Michael; grandson, Elliot R. Cyman; great-grandbaby, Darby; and sister, Pat Ritter.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, 211 E. State St., Pendleton with Pastor Doug Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Grove Lawn Cemetery in Pendleton.

A visitation was held from 4 until 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at Lahm Chapel.
